Reddit SEO is the practice of optimizing Reddit threads and content so they rank in Google search results for relevant queries. Google has long treated Reddit as a high-quality source for human discussion, and in 2024 explicitly elevated Reddit results across many query types — making Reddit one of the few non-owned platforms where founders can durably influence search results.

The mechanics are different from on-site SEO. You don't control Reddit's HTML or schema; what you control is which threads exist, what their titles say, what the top comments contain, and which subreddits they live in. The effective levers are: framing the post title as a question that matches likely search queries, ensuring top-voted comments answer the question concisely, posting in subreddits Google indexes prominently (large general-audience subs perform better than niche ones for SEO purposes), and accumulating enough upvotes that the thread becomes the canonical answer.

Reddit's own internal search is a separate concern and operates differently from Google. A thread can rank #1 in Reddit's hot listing without ranking in Google, and vice versa. Most marketers prioritize Google ranking because the traffic compounds longer.
